Workplace safety programs are implemented to raise awareness of safe practices and behaviors in the workplace environment. Safety programs can be difficult to put into effect in large companies, and strict focus and effort are required to maintain a successful safety program.

The design of a lapel pin is second only to the manufacturing and material quality. We have been designing lapel pins for years, and it’s more than just about designing lapel pins, it’s about creatively solving a problem at a very small size! A lot of times, lapel pins must tell a big story at a 1″ or smaller size, so it’s up to our designers to harness their creative abilities to come up with a solution for each and every lapel pin we design. A lot of times, businesses wish to use their logo and a simple slogan, some times their logo is readily available, however most of the time this isn’t the case, and each logo must be recreated entirely from scratch, typically even re-illustrating complex images and recreating fonts just for a single pin design. Often times a lot of our customers need to fit quite a bit of wording onto a lapel pin…this can be tricky since letters are very thin, and color-filling small areas on lapel pins is a very tedious job.

A lapel pin design typically starts with a logo, image, or idea/concept that needs to be portrayed. Sometimes our customers want a pin to depict certain events or ideas through imagery, or metaphorically conveying their message, other times, they simply want wording or text in a unique font. We start creating the design the moment we receive the request, because getting artwork back promptly is one of our top priorities. We are usually able to complete a design in 15 minutes to 2 hours, depending of course on the complexity, and whether certain logos or images are readily available in a high quality format. Our artists use only the latest graphic design software, and we keep our systems and software updated to make sure we’re at the leading edge of the industry.

This episode of How It’s Made came out quite a while ago, and we’ve watched it so many times we forget that not everyone has seen it. This is a little insight into spin-cast lapel pins being manufactured. This process is not typical for most lapel pins that are made, but it gives our readers an idea of one manufacturing process.

Deciding what type of attachment to use for your lapel pins can be a tough one. There are several types of attachments, and each has it’s own use. We’ll cover some of the most popular lapel pin attachments below:

• Butterfly/Military Clutch – The most common type of attachment. Great for temporary use, giveaways and handouts – Medium holding power
• Rubber clutch – Common for trading pins and handouts, this clutch holds strong for a temporary duration and typically becomes loose over time.
• Safety Pin – Ideal for semi-permanent applications, safety pins hold well and can be used over and over again. Must be pinned on straight.
• Jewelry Clutch – Great for frequent use, jewelry clutches lock against the post to ensure a tight fit and years of secure use.
• Deluxe Clutch – Same as jewelry Clutch, offers durability and secure locking for frequent use.
• Magnetic – When piercing a garment isn’t acceptable, magnetic attachments can be used. Magnetic attachments tend to get lost and offer l0w-to-medium holding power.
